Christian F. Nunes, MBA, MS, LCSW

Founding Partner/CEO

Christian F. Nunes is a dynamic advocate who made history when she assumed the role of President of the National Organization for Women in August 2020. Before this, she served as Vice President, appointed by the board in May 2019. As the organization’s second African American president and the youngest person of color to hold the position in over 40 years, Christian leads NOW’s intersectional mission, rallying grassroots activists against structural sexism and racism.

With a career spanning over two decades, Christian has been a champion for mental health and children’s and women’s issues. Her leadership at NOW has seen the launch of numerous impactful initiatives, each making a significant difference in areas such as housing, immigration, gender-based violence, democracy and constitutional equality, economic justice, and racial justice.

Under her leadership, she spearheaded the Unlock the Future campaign, advocating for the humane treatment of detained immigrant families, particularly women and girls escaping sexual violence, assault, and poverty. Additionally, she crafted a Bill of Rights for Immigrant Women and Girls, gaining thousands of supporters. Christian also champions racial equity training for all levels of the organization, initiated NOW’s Annual Racial Justice Summit, and led many other transformative programs promoting all aspects of intersectional feminism, the Feminist State of the Union, analyzing the President’s State of the Union from a feminist lens, and various other intersectional programming and campaigns.

As a licensed clinical social worker, consultant, and woman-minority business owner, Christian’s thought leadership and wealth of expertise have been instrumental in policy reform, legislative advocacy, and grassroots mobilization. Her mental health background enhances her understanding of constituents’ experiences and highlights gaps in policy and legislation.

Christian’s commitment to social justice extends beyond NOW through her equity work as WMBO and involvement in past and previous boards and commissions. As the former chair of the Mayor’s Commission on Disability Issues, she co-authored a community survey on police response to crises and actively supported progressive candidates in local elections.

Christian’s influence and insights have earned her recognition in prominent media outlets such as Forbes, The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, Fortune, MSNBC, Business Insider, Politico, the Huffington Post, and many more esteemed platforms. Her educational background, including a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) from Northern Arizona University, a Master of Science from Columbia University, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix, further solidifies her expertise and credibility.
